South Eastern Region Anniversary Meet & AGM
78 units from across the South Eastern Region, (including an impressive 14 units from the West Kent DA), met at the Hop Farm at Beltring for the 62nd Anniversary Meet and AGM over the weekend of 17th-20th June. Special guests for the event were Club Treasurer Sally Birch, and her husband, Communications Officer, Steve.
Campers on site on Thursday evening enjoyed a musical quiz, and the meet was officially opened by the outgoing S.E.R Chairman Rex Knight, during the disco on Friday night.
Saturday morning saw the "non competitive" games heats for boules and horseshoes, this year organised by the West Kents. Rex Knight entertained Sally & Steve Birch at the traditional 'Chairman's Lunch'.
In the afternoon, member's skills were displayed at the Arts & Craft fair in part of the marquee, whilst the quarter and semi finals of the sports had to retreat into the other part due to a sudden downpour. In keeping with the 'Scottish' theme, members were invited to sample haggis with neeps and tatties, courtesy of Regional Councilor Alan Armstrong from the South Downs DA, (and very nice they were too!). The weather kindly abated to allow the festivities to continue outside with some Highland Games, including tossing of the caber (cardboard carpet tubes), and (inflatable) hammer throwing. Saturday concluded with a live band and a fancy dress parade on the weekend's theme of "Scotland".
The weekend concluded with the finals of the "non competitive" sports, the raffle, and the final address from the chief steward and new Chairman Paul Westripp.
