FOL 2010
So another FOL was upon us, where had the last year gone too?... Not to be too down heartened, us happy band met at Folly Foot Farm, Smarden with a view to wow and excite with our lighting up, and to enjoy a Proms Night as well... Just how much excitement could we take?.
The theme this year for the lighting up, which was chosen by DA members, was 'Trades'. Now this meant the imagination could run riot. Ultimately we had some wonderful creations put up for viewing, (see the photos in FOL2010), so well done all that took part. The kids in particular did really well, and each year, the thought that goes into them gets more and more elaborate.
As mentioned, we also held this as a Proms Night ... Not sure if we were mad or daft, (maybe a bit of both), but a fantastic time was had by all who took part. Some of us were even daft enough to get dressed up for the occasion. Again photographic proof in the gallery (I'm sure they can be used for blackmail purposes later). Lets face it, who wears a tux, and wellies... or evening gown and fleece... in the middle of a field?.
Still with resplendent clothing, and I hasten to add, a crystal chandelier hanging from the party tent (it added a bit of class), we sung our hearts out. Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, we blasted out songs from the war time era, then onto more modern classics like You'll Never Walk Alone, before moving onto Rule Britannia, and the likes. Can't say that we looked that fantastic, or that we even sounded any better, but it was soul stirring stuff, and anyway, after a few glasses of wine (to keep the cold out obviously) we thought we sounded brilliant.
We couldn't have been that bad though, as the farm owners were in attendance for the Proms, and the next morning they attended the coffee morning, bringing home made sausage rolls and jam and requesting that we come back again next year to do it again. So watch this space, or website at least, for confirmation of 2011 and we shall see what strange occurrences we can bring about...
Keep your singing voice ready just in case!
